KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — UOW Malaysia University Colleges and Colleges has appointed a new board of governors chairman: former GAZPROM Marketing & Trading Pte Ltd. Singapore managing director and president Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah.
The UOW Malaysia board of governors confirmed his appointment on August 15 for a two-year term, the UOW Malaysia website said.
UOW Malaysia Sdn Bhd board of directors chairman Noel Cornish said in a statement: "I am delighted with the appointment of Mohammad Medan as (board of governors) chairman.
"With his vast knowledge, experience and networks in various Malaysian industries and corporate boardrooms, I have no doubt that he will bring to the chairmanship the insights and acumen needed to help UOW Malaysia navigate through the challenges of the higher education ecosystem in Malaysia.”
UOW Malaysia chief executive officer and UOW Global Enterprises chief executive officer (Asia) Jennifer Ng also welcomed Mohammad Medan’s appointment, saying that he would be pivotal in developing UOW Malaysia entities.
He was the group chief executive officer (CEO) of Bintulu Port Holdings Sdn Bhd from 2016 to 2023, the management of which led him to be given one of Asia’s Most Inspiring Executives by the Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability (ACES) Awards in 2022.
Mohammad Medan is also an independent and non-executive director of Ancom Logistics Berhad.
In the years 2014 to 2016, he was a member of the Education Ministry's education advisory council.
He is from Bario Highland, Sarawak and studied law at Universiti Malaya.
