KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Umno will take action on its Melaka state assemblyman who attended Perikatanan Nasional’s candidate announcement in Bakri, Johor recently, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly said.
Sinar Harian reported the Umno president saying he was waiting for a report on Rembia state assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis’ actions before deciding on the appropriate action.
“I will receive the report and we will do something,” he said to reporters after an event at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.
Muhammad Jailani had defended his actions at the PN event to announce its candidates for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-election that was also attended by PN chairman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He had claimed his attendance was not made in his capacity as an Umno-elected representative but for Muafakat Nasional (MN), a registered NGO run by former Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
“I am representing Annuar because Muafakat Nasional believes in unity of faith.
“Coincidentally, PN shares the same spirit. We believe this bond will not die and we are not enemies with any political party,” he was quoted saying.
Formerly formed as a coalition between Umno and Islamist party PAS, Annuar formed a separate group bearing the same MN name together with some of those who were ousted from Umno by Zahid, claiming to be a pro-Malay platform.
