KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 13 — PAS central working committee member Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim retained his victory in the Kuala Terengganu Parliamentary by-election yesterday.
Ahmad Amzad defeated Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Azan Ismail with a 47,266 majority of votes, obtaining 68,369 votes while Azan garnered 21,103 votes.
The Kuala Terengganu by-election was held following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on June 27 in nullifying the victory of Ahmad Amzad, who is also former Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister during the 15th General Election after elements of corruption during the campaign period were found.
The by-election was held simultaneously yesterday with the state elections involving Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu. — Bernama
