KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — Following the end of elections involving six states, Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called on all parties to work towards the benefit of the nation.

In a statement, Ahmad Zahid said BN, together with its allies in the unity government, respects the election results of the six states as it was represented by the people.

“The results announced have maintained the dominance of the unity government in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.

“The mandate obtained yesterday has also become the basis for the strength of the parties under the unity government to continue to work together for the next five years,” he said in a statement early this morning.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, said it was now time to ensure that unity and stability is maintained for the prosperity of all Malaysians.

“To all those who have carried out their voting responsibilities, a heartfelt appreciation goes out to you for your commitment of a better future for your respective states and the nation.

“I would like to thank all party members, machinery and volunteers who have worked hard to ensure a successful campaign to assist BN,” said the Umno president.

Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) had announced that the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) unity coalition had secured Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.

Rivals Perikatan Nasional (PN) managed to retain its hold on the remaining three states of Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan.

All six states are expected to announce their respective menteri besar or chief minister by today, before forming the state governments.
