GEORGE TOWN, Aug 12 — Chow Kon Yeow will be sworn in for the second term as Penang chief minister tomorrow after he announced a two-thirds majority win for the unity coalition.
The Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said according to official and unofficial results, the PH-Barisan Nasional (BN) unity coalition has already won a total 29 out of 40 seats.
“We have won enough majority to form the state government and we have won more than two-thirds majority,” he said in a brief speech at about 10.15pm at the PH-BN state elections results centre in St Giles Hotel here.
He listed the seats retained by the unity coalition: 19 by DAP, seven by PKR, two by BN and one by Amanah.
He said he will be sworn in as the chief minister to lead the new state government tomorrow morning.
“Our future is full of challenges. We will scrutinise the results and conduct an analysis and work on our weaknesses so that the unity government that will be formed will fulfil the aspirations of the people of Penang,” he said.
DAP has managed to retain all of the 19 seats it contested, while PKR lost six out of the 13 seats it contested.
Amanah also lost one of its seats, Permatang Pasir, while BN which contested in six seats, lost four of the seats.
