KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — All but Kelantan have crossed 60 per cent in terms of voter turnout across the six state elections being held, the Election Commission (EC) latest data shows.
According to the EC’s hourly update, as of 4pm voter turnout in Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Terengganu and Kedah were at 70 and 68 per cent respectively, followed by Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Penang at 67 per cent.
In Selangor, 65 per cent of the voters have cast their ballots, while Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan are at 62 per cent and 56 per cent, respectively.
Three hours before polling closed statewide at 6pm, Terengganu and Kedah were in the lead followed by Penang and Selangor.
As of 2pm, Kelantan and Negri Sembilan were the only states yet to cross the halfway mark.
Terengganu was the first to cross the halfway mark at 1pm.
Earlier at noon, PH held states of Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan trailed their closest rival PN in terms of voter turnout.
At 11am earlier, less than half of eligible voters came out to vote across the six states.
According to the EC's hourly update, voter turnout at 11 was highest in Terengganu with 33 per cent, followed by Kedah at 32 per cent and Penang at 29 per cent.
A total of 9,773,571 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the elections taking place in the six states.
A total of 529 candidates from nine parties and 41 independent candidates, are vying for the 245 state seats up for grabs.
