KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — Islamist party PAS said today it will maintain the status quo of leadership in Kedah and Terengganu if Perikatan Nasional (PN) wins the state elections in these two states.

In a statement, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan however said that it would name a new menteri besar and deputy in Kelantan if PN gets to keep the state administration.

“After meeting with our leader Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and others in Terengganu we’ve decided to keep the menteri besar candidates in Kedah and Terengganu.

“As for Kelantan we will announce a new line-up of leadership for the menteri besar and deputy roles. One will be a religious man, the other a technocrat,” Takiyuddin said in a statement here,

The outgoing Kelantan menteri besar is Datuk Ahmad Yakob with Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah as his deputy.

In Kedah and Terengganu, his counterparts are Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

The state election is also taking place in Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan tomorrow.

PAS and its coalition Perikatan Nasional have not named any of its menteri besar candidates.
