KUCHING, Aug 9 — Sarawak has been chosen to host the national-level Malaysia Day 2023 celebration at the Perpaduan Stadium here on September 16.
In a statement today, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit announced that the celebration themed “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” will be attended by the guest of honour, Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Also expected to attend are Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Minister, who is in charge of the celebration, Datuk Julaihi Narawi, said the selection to host the festival was a great honour for the state.
“Sarawak is always held up as an excellent example of the spirit of unity. Recently, the slogan ‘Segulai, Sejalai’ was chosen because we are always united and in agreement on defending unity,” he said in the statement.
Among the performances scheduled for the day are a special musical titled Segulai, Sejalai as well as shows featuring Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
On June 7, Anwar said that “Segulai Sejalai”, an Iban phrase which translates into “together in unity”, would be adopted as a nationwide slogan for unity. — Bernama
