JOHOR BARU, Aug 7 — Police have initiated investigations against a 32-year-old man who had allegedly driven his four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle into a child that was on a push scooter in the Eco Spring gated community in Taman Ekoflora here.
The three-year-old boy who stayed in the gated community died on the spot after he was mowed down by a 4WD vehicle last Friday.
Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said police have received a report on the incident and have initiated an investigation.
“The 32-year-old driver of the 4WD vehicle is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“If convicted, the driver can be fined between RM20,000 and RM50,000, and jailed for between five and 10 years,” he said in a brief reply today.
Raub was responding to queries following videos posted on social media today that showed the vehicle that caused the boy’s death.
Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 pertains to the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
