KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain called on all police personnel involved in the state elections early voting process tomorrow to fulfil their civic duty, saying it was a right that has been entrusted to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
“This will show the people that PDRM supports the democratic process of voting. Therefore, all the personnel involved please be accountable,” he said in his special address to police personnel in conjunction with the state elections, at Bukit Aman today.
He also reminded police personnel on duty throughout the campaign period and polling day this Saturday to carry out their task with full dedication and caution.
“PDRM personnel are instructed to maintain a high level of professionalism and control their emotions in the event of any form of provocation,” he said.
According to the Election Commission website, early voting in the six-state elections will involve 49,660 Malaysian Armed Forces personnel and 47,728 police personnel along with their spouses.
Whereas, the early voting for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election will involve 1,362 police personnel and 35 military personnel as well as their spouses.
The state elections in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan will be held simultaneously with the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election on August 12, with early voting set for August 8, tomorrow.
The 14-day campaign period started on nomination day on July 29 and will end at 11.59pm on August 11. — Bernama
