KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Lawyer and social activist Haris Ibrahim died today, months after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.
Haris, 63, died at the home of his brother, Adam, in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here, The Star reported.
Haris had moved there soon after learning he had terminal lung cancer in April.
His sister-in-law, Firoza Burhan, said Haris died peacefully.
“He took in a few breaths and faded away,” she was quoted as saying.
According to Firoza, Haris woke up feeling tired in the morning, hours before his death.
However, Firoza said Haris had long accepted that he only had a little time left due to the incurable cancer.
“He took it stoically and fought courageously and underwent all the required therapy,” she said further in the report.
Haris had reportedly been given six months to live after he was diagnosed with cancer.
He is survived by his 28-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.
