KUALA LUMPUR, August 2 — A police investigation against a woman regarding an edited video clip of Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah endorsing a political party in the ongoing state election campaign has been classified as a race, religion and royalty (3R) case.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Sinar Harian that investigators have taken the woman’s statement yesterday at the Cyberjaya police station.

"So far, police have recorded her statement and no arrests were made.

"The possibility of the 46-year-old woman being called back will depend on the investigation.

"This is classified as a 3R case in relation to sentiments on royalty,” Razarudin was quoted saying in the Malay daily today.

It was reported yesterday that the woman appeared at Cyberjaya police station to give her statement.

Sinar Harian also quoted Razarudin as saying that the case is investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code for statements that lead to public alarm and distress, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.

He added that the case will also be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948.

Razarudin confirmed that 24 police reports have been lodged over the case.

Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Perak Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin in a statement on Monday said the video that was broadcasted was a small excerpt from Sultan Nazrin’s (then Regent of Perak) speech at an Ummah Unity Discourse-themed “Ummah Unity; Hope, Reality and Challenges” organised by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka on February 19, 2013.

A video clip lasting two minutes and 50 seconds went viral, quoting a small part of Sultan Nazrin’s speech in 2013 that touched on a political party that is believed to be PAS.

The woman, said to be the Melaka PAS Muslimat chief, had highlighted Sultan Nazrin’s views on the Islamist party in the video clip.

Following that, the Sultan of Perak’s Office had filed a police report last Saturday regarding the actions of the woman involved.
