GOMBAK, July 29 — Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Azmin Ali today expressed confidence that he will win the Hulu Kelang seat on August 12.
The former senior minister of international trade and industry said PN is offering Malaysians the prospect of better policies and initiatives.
“We are now witnessing a wave of discontent among the rakyat in Gombak, Selangor and all of Malaysia. People are sick and tired of the current leadership. The government must focus on the economy.
“This is the best opportunity for Perikatan to win (in the state elections) because we are offering them major policies and initiatives based on our experience, as led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin with his stimulus packages,” he told reporters after submitting his candidacy forms at the nomination centre here at SMK Sungai Pusu.
He said he had decided to adhere to his party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s decision to name him as a candidate for the upcoming state elections.
“Although I lost last year, but I am here to stay,” he said.
“The party has decided, and as a party man, I will support that decision,” he added.
Azmin will be contesting the Hulu Kelang seat and he will go against Juwairiya Zulkifli, a former Bukit Melawati assemblyman and a political secretary to caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Election Commission (EC) has set August 12 as the polling date for the state elections in Selangor, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan as well as the Kuala Terengganu by-election.
