GEORGE TOWN, July 17 — Penang DAP will submit its list of candidates to the party selection committee this week, said state chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

He said the final DAP candidates for the state elections are still being considered by the party state committee.

“The process is still ongoing, and we will submit the finalised list to the selection committee in a few days,” he told reporters after launching the newly upgraded Anson Road hawker complex here.

The caretaker Penang chief minister was asked to comment on party secretary-general Anthony Loke’s remarks that there will be a “renewal” process for its Penang line-up.

Loke had urged those who are not renominated as candidates to accept the decision.

Chow stressed that the final decision on the candidates will be made by the selection committee so he could not announce details of the candidates yet.

“When I can answer this, I will answer but not now,” he said.

When asked if this also meant that there will be a new line-up of state excos under him if the state government were retained, Chow said this matter had not arisen yet.

“What he (Loke) meant was that there may be some incumbents who may not be proposed as candidates this time; other issues do not arise,” he said.

The Penang state elections, to be held concurrently with Selangor, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu, will be held on August 12.

The nomination of candidates will be on July 29.

DAP is expected to announce its confirmed list of candidates a few days before nominations.
