KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan today reminded party members that DAP has pledged many times to support the position of the Malays, Islam, and Malay rulers.

He also said Umno members’ hatred for DAP stemmed from its previous partnership with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who led the Pakatan Harapan coalition to defeat Barisan Nasional in the 14th general election.

“MCA, DAP and Gerakan, they are all Chinese parties but the Chinese community voted for DAP since 2008. How long do we want to keep our minds closed about them? People chose them for a reason.

“In 2012, they signed the Shah Alam declaration to support the Malays, Islam and the rulers. They did the same during their 50-year celebration, and the latest one when they signed the agreement during the unity government convention,” he said during a townhall session with Umno Kota Raja division in Klang.

“So why do you still have a phobia of DAP?” he asked.

The event was also attended by Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Umno information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

BN and PH partnered with other coalitions after the 15th general election to form the national unity government and prevent Perikatan Nasional from taking control of the country.

The two must now compete as allies for the first time in the elections for Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Selangor, and Terengganu set for August 12.
