IPOH, July 16 — The Jalur Gemilang will fly proudly over the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout, Meru Raya, here as the National Month celebrations and Fly Jalur Gemilang 2023 campaign kick off today.

A total of 10,000 people are expected to attend the launch, which will be officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is representing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at 10am.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, in his capacity as the National Day and Malaysia Day 2023 main committee chairman, will also be in attendance.

Around 6,000 Langkah Perpaduan participants have already begun filling the venue as early as 6 am, and will be part of the programme that will be flagged off by Fahmi at 7.30am.

The launch will then take place on the main stage, including the flying of the Jalur Gemilang flag and the singing of the national anthem, Negaraku, followed by the reading of the Rukun Negara pledge.

The deputy prime minister will then flag off the Kembara Merdeka and Jalur Gemilang 2023 convoy that will traverse the country in conjunction with the National Month.

A Kita MADANI carnival, filled with various activities including a Rahmah sale, patriotic celebrities contest, quizzes, and artist performances will also be held in conjunction with the launch, while the Royal Malaysian Police will open a summons payment counter offering discounts of up to 50 per cent on selected summons from 8.30am to 3pm.

National Day celebrations on Aug 31 will be held at Putrajaya Square while Malaysia Day celebrations on Sept 16 will take place in Kuching, Sarawak. — Bernama
