JOHOR BARU, July 14 — The Johor police said today they have successfully charged 103 out of 219 cases related to sexual crimes involving children in the period from January 1 to July 13 July this year.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the charges included 59 cases of rape, adultery (20), sodomy (six), sexual offences against children (69), child abuse (58), and abortion (seven).

“Other than that, there is no recorded case of abandoned babies in the same period,” he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here.

Kamarul Zaman said the public is advised to constantly monitor the movements and social interactions of their children to avoid them from being caught in criminal activities or becoming victims of sexual crimes themselves.

“The Johor police contingent also advises parents to monitor their children’s use of digital gadgets and smartphones, as well as their social media accounts, so as they are not abused,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kamarul Zaman also announced that a total of 40 children out of the 43 reported missing have been successfully found.

The state’s top cop said that the three missing children are still unaccounted for.
