KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali who is now with Perikatan Nasional (PN) should run against Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari in next month’s state election to see who is best suited to lead Selangor, PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil told reporters yesterday.

Fahmi said Azmin, who was the previous Selangor menteri besar, should show he has the courage to challenge his successor Amirudin if he to reclaim the top state government post, Sinar Harian reported today.

“Wherever Amirudin competes, then Azmin must go there to compete with the [caretaker], menteri besar.

“I will help [Amirudin] to ensure that we succeed in burying [Azmin] if he contests in the state assembly under Gombak or if he contests in Hulu Kelang, we make sure he loses there,” Fahmi was quoted as saying at the “Selangor Kita Arus Merah Kuning” tour in Shah Alam yesterday.

Fahmi, who is also communications and multimedia minister, was also reported saying the PN coalition was using the three sensitive sentiments of race, religion and Malaysia’s royal institution to campaign ahead of the state election.

“You can say all kinds of things, but we leave it to the authorities to conduct an investigation,” he was quoted as saying.

He called on voters to back Pakatan Harapan (PH) with their ballots on August 12 to teach PN a lesson.

“There is only one way, which is for the people to give a clear signal to reject PN and choose PH in the state election of these six states,” he was quoted as saying.

Amirudin, who is also from PKR, won 62 per cent of vote in the Sungai Tua state constituency in Election 2018.

In last November’s GE15, he won the Gombak parliamentary constituency against Azmin with 12,729 majority votes.

Amirudin managed to garner 72,267 votes, while Azmin, who held the seat for three terms, contested under PN banner and got 59,538 votes.
