KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) announced four candidates today to contest in the Selangor state elections.
Leading the list is its secretary-general and founding member Amir Hariri Abd Hadi who will contest in Seri Serdang, a state seat under the Puchong parliamentary constituency.
The others will be Syaidiyah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen or also known as Cheda Razak in Batu Tiga under Shah Alam, R. Thanusha or Teacher Thanusha in Sentosa under Kota Raja, and Melanie Ting Yi-Hlin for the Bukit Antarabangsa under Ampang.
Present at the reveal was Muda founder and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, who said the party chose to unveil the foursome first as they were the ones who have shown lots of promise and had the gumption to contest at a difficult state elections.
"This is the first batch of announcements and there will be more to come in the following days hopefully we finish announcing soon. First and foremost all our candidates and we chose them because their hearts are truly in service. We want them to go into this while their still young and be the voice of conscience for the people.
"What they lack in experience they'll make up with grit and hard work," he said.
Muda decided to go at it alone for these upcoming state elections in Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan.
Outspoken Muda member Amir said he wants to contest in Seri Serdang since he spent a lot of time in the constituency growing up.
"My dad's a hardcore PAS member and used to travel to Kelantan from here to listen to speeches. Now I'm with Muda and I want to say despite our differences we should not lose relationships due to politics," he said.
Amir said he is aware of the gangsterism and social problems in the area as well as the problems like lack of rubbish collection and clogged drains.
"The infrastructure in Seri Serdang is also in dire need of upgrading, 5G towers built too close to homes and many other problems.
"This is why people don't trust current politicians and I hope that the people will give me their mandate, trust me and believe in me and the fact I will do everything to turn the place around," he added.
Muda said it plans to announce the second batch of candidates on Monday.
