KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — The Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition is prepared to form the next governments in the six states for the coming elections, following the allocation of administrative posts that will be shared among its component parties.
Free Malaysia Today reported PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as saying that the coalition was keen to avoid disagreements over positions should it win and succeed in forming the state governments for Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
He said the positions include the posts of menteri besar or chief minister, state executive committee members, heads of state government-linked companies (GLC), local councillors and even village security and development committee chiefs.
“After we concluded the seat negotiations, we started to discuss on forming the government (in all the states). We are one step ahead.
“We planned it this way because we wanted to show we are truly united.” Muhyiddin was quoted as saying by the news portal in an interview that was published today.
On Thursday, PN announced that it has concluded its seat allocations for the coming state elections.
The coalition, consisting of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), PAS and Gerakan, confirmed it would contest in all 245 seats in the six states.
The report also noted that candidates for menteri besar in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan will come from Bersatu, while PAS will assume the top post in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
On the issue of negative repercussion arising from the appointment of politicians to GLCs, Muhyiddin defended that the move is based on qualification and added the unity government has done the same.
He said it is not wrong if there are political leaders with calibre who are not holding any other position and are qualified for the GLC position.
“It doesn’t mean that the post should only be for corporate figures,” said the former prime minister.
