KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — The Muar division of PKR has cut its political ties with the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) less than a day after it announced its decision to run in the upcoming six state elections that could split votes for the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional “unity” coalition.

The division’s secretary Esa Ali said that Muda’s decision to contest solo in the state elections violated the political cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Muda.

“Muar PKR took note of Muda’s decision to run solo in the six upcoming state elections.

“The decision has violated the political cooperation of the Unity Government in the form of an ‘electoral pact’ between Muda and PH.

“Therefore, Muar PKR decided to stop any form of cooperation with Muda in the Muar Parliament,” he said in a statement posted on the division’s Facebook account last night.

Yesterday, Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman announced that the party will be contesting the upcoming state elections under its own logo.

Syed Saddiq said his party will use its own strength to bring about a new political narrative to Malaysia.

The Muar MP also said that the party will adopt a hybrid election campaign method, although most of it will be conducted online.

He said that this method will enable it to avoid relying on political donors.

Muda had applied to join the PH coalition prior to last year’s general election, but has yet to be formally accepted as a member.

PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in March that he had been “too busy” to evaluate Muda’s application letter.
