KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has downplayed Khairy Jamaluddin’s meeting with both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The economy minister said it is more important to address structural concerns instead of fixating on individuals, when asked if Putrajaya aims to continue engaging the former health minister and Rembau MP.

“KJ is a friend. I might just catch up with him and have coffee. You guys spend too much time creating stories,” he was quoted by The Star, using Khairy’s moniker.

“If I, as economy minister, only meet PKR people, then the media and netizens will say we are not meeting others. Now the prime minister meets everyone to get views but that too raises issues.”

“Let’s focus on the core structural issues. If everyone focuses on that, then we will make more progress on managing (issues) rather than spending digital space on whom KJ meets next,” he reportedly added.

Last week, Khairy made headlines when he attended a meeting on the country’s economic trajectory chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

This led to speculation that Khairy might be planning to join the unity government.

On Monday, he appeared to confirm that he has met Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Muhyiddin in an uncaptioned Instagram post.

Prior to this, it had been reported that Khairy would be meeting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership to discuss an offer from Muhyiddin of a seat on the supreme council of the coalition’s lynchpin party Bersatu. Muhyiddin is also the PN chairman.

Khairy, who was a former Umno youth chief, was sacked from Umno in January this year.
