KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — The Malaysia United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has today accused Pakatan Harapan (PH) of misleading the voters after its Selangor chapter chief Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said both sides would likely cooperate in the state election.
In a statement, its information chief Luqman Long said there have been no discussions between the two parties on seat allocations or any strategic alliance.
“His statement was false, untrue and was a personal perception of the menteri besar of Selangor,” he said, referring to Amirudin.
The party also accused Amirudin of disrespecting Muda by pre-empting its own announcement.
“I assume the statement was intended to mislead voters and had completely disrespected Muda.
“Any matters pertaining to Muda in the state elections will only be announced by the party, not Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
Yesterday, Amirudin said PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) have finalised talks on seat allocation for the Selangor state election soon, and said he is confident that the alliance between PH and BN will manage to win the two-thirds majority in Selangor.
When asked about the involvement of Muda in the seat talks, Amirudin said that the PH presidential council will decide, as both parties were partners in an electoral pact during the 15th general election.
Muda has repeatedly pledged its allegiance to PH and has applied to be part of the coalition but was repeatedly rebuffed by PH.
Earlier this month, Muda said it has identified the party’s potential candidates based on an assessment of their strength and potential to contest in the six states set for elections.
Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said the process was important to identify the states that the party would field candidates, especially in areas with a strong party following, such as Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.
Yesterday, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah consented to the dissolution of the Selangor State Assembly this Friday.
