KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said today that Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) have finalised talks on seat allocation for the state election soon.
Speaking to reporters, Amirudin also said he is confident that the alliance between PH and BN will manage to win the two-thirds majority in Selangor.
"It's possible that we can win 50 seats,” he said.
There are 56 seats in the Selangor state assembly. PH and BN currently have 45 of them.
Despite the finished negotiations, Amirudin said there are several seats that need to be looked at by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the PH chairman and his deputy Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as BN chairman.
He said the remaining seats that are still under discussion are not just in Selangor but also Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Terengganu.
“I believe that matter will be raised between the PKR president and the Umno president to decide why the discussion between BN and PH has ended.
“Because we have several seats in Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Selangor, Terengganu that need to be finalised, but the number is very small compared to the number of seats that will be contested,” he said.
When asked about the involvement of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) in the seat talks, Amirudin said that the PH presidential council will decide.
“On Muda, it will be decided by PH with the understanding that PH is their partner in the last general election,” he said, referring to the electoral pact that PH and Muda agreed to in GE15 last November.
Muda has repeatedly pledged its allegiance to PH and has applied to be part of the coalition.
However, PH leaders have yet to give a clear response to Muda’s application.
Earlier today, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah consented to the dissolution of the Selangor State Assembly this Friday.
