TUARAN, June 16 — Stern action will be taken against any department head found hindering the government’s effort to bring investors into the state, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said there have been instances where department heads were found to unilaterally impose their own rules on investors who were interested in investing in the state..

“I am watching and if this is the case, I will not hesitate to take stern action,” he said when delivering his speech at the swearing-in ceremony and presentation of appointment letters to 19 Tuaran district councillors for the 2023/2025 term here today.

The Chief Minister said the role of the department heads was to facilitate investments and if everything was in order there was no need to make things difficult for them.

“We want to create more jobs for the people, that is why we are bringing in more investors to Sabah,” he said adding that in the past two years the total investments into Sabah amounted to over RM30 billion.

Meanwhile, when met by reporters, Hajiji said that each district council member must play a role to ensure that the respective local authority areas are developed systematically to serve the people well.

Hajiji also reminded government officials to facilitate matters related to development, business and government approvals.

“If all the necessary requirements are met, make it easy for them so that they can run their business smoothly and offer (job) opportunities to the people,” he said. — Bernama
