KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — The government has agreed to introduce a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme specially for women, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The deputy prime minister said this programme was proposed by Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and would be implemented in collaboration with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka and the RISDA-owned Kolej Universiti Agrosains Malaysia.
“I have made arrangements for an intake of 15,000 women for this special TVET programme for women, Alhamdulillah,” the Umno president said in his winding-up and adjournment speech at the Umno General Assembly 2023 at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.
On the issue of housing for youths as raised by Umno Youth at its assembly on Thursday, Ahmad Zahid said the government had approved Madani transit houses under the youth transit housing scheme nationwide.
“I have discussed the issue of housing for youths, and I would like to state that the government has approved Madani transit houses under the youth transit housing scheme throughout the country,” said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister.
On the issue of bankruptcy involving borrowers of MARA education loans, Ahmad Zahid said he had directed MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki to study the matter with a view to easing the burden of borrowers and protecting their welfare.
Ahmad Zahid also said he would study a proposal from Umno Wilayah delegates for the re-establishment of the Federal Territory Ministry.
“If this is the wish of delegates, I will work on it as an agenda,” he added. — Bernama
