KULAI, June 9 — Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) plans to develop the country’s first Bandar Madani, with Johor being one of the preferred locations.
SPNB chairman Datuk Husam Musa said the development of Bandar Madani, which is still in the planning stage, is in line with the Malaysia Madani concept inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said there are 95 acres of land in Pasir Gudang in the Johor Baru district, which is seen as strategic for developing the town.
“I have visited the area today and it is very strategic and can be developed, but it is not certain whether Johor will be the first location for Bandar Madani to be developed... because there is also a proposal that it be established in Kuala Lumpur, but the location cannot be announced yet.
“If it is developed under SPNB, among the types of houses that can be built in the city are affordable ones under RM300,000,” he said at a press conference after officiating at the Majlis Ramah Mesra dan Taklimat Bersama Pengerusi SPNB with the 2nd Generation Felda Bukit Ramun here today.
He said the Bandar Madani that will be developed will include affordable housing areas and be equipped with various facilities for all levels of society.
Meanwhile, Husam said SPNB has built more than 57,000 units of Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) throughout the country.
He added that he had not received any negative feedback so far after the size of RMR houses was reduced to 750 square feet following the increase in construction costs.
“People’s feedback so far has been good, they (recipients) are happy. When the house is ready, it is still spacious with a living room, kitchen and so on,” he said. — Bernama
