KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — A total of 5,650 replacement housing units for the B40 group are being built under redevelopment privatisation projects involving a few low-cost apartments, namely Sri Pulau Pinang, Sri Melaka, Sri Johor and Taman Ikan Emas in Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.
Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said that, of the total, 859 units were owned by individuals, while another 4,791 were rental units under Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
“The projects under the Department of Federal Territories, through public-private partnership, aim to upgrade the lives of residents with a more comfortable living environment, because each unit has already reached the age of half a century, in addition to having a small house area and a lack of basic facilities such as lifts, surau and halls.
“The new unit, with an area of 850 square feet, is also equipped with other facilities, such as surau, kindergarten, hall, shop units and management office,” she said in a press conference about the project, after spending about an hour visiting the site and monitoring the progress of the project today.
Dr Wan Azizah said that the redevelopment privatisation project has two phases of implementation, involving a total cost of RM1.19 billion over an area of 55,948 hectares (138.25 acres).
“The first phase, which involves 1,192 units, is currently being implemented, including utility relocation works starting in July 2022, after the settlement of land issues which took several years. It is expected to be completed in 2026.
“The second phase will start after the completion of the first phase. Each phase of development takes four years, and is expected to be completed in 2030,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary’s low-cost apartments’ first sub-zone chairman, Hanafiah Md Amin, is grateful that the long-awaited redevelopment project has finally materialised.
“Alhamdulillah, finally our (residents) dream has come true. This project has actually been planned for a long time since the last four general elections. We are really looking forward to this moment,” he said. — Bernama
