KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — The Ministry of Education (MoE) together with the Education Services Commission (SPP) are taking proactive action to address the issue of oversupply and unemployment of Bachelor of Education (ISMP) graduates.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said having sought the views of the National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP), it is hoped that the matter would be resolved in stages by this year.
“We (MoE) are already working together with SPP to deal with the issue,” she told reporters after launching Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka (DBP) workbooks in conjunction with the International Book Fair at Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL), here today.
She was commenting on NUTP’s recent statement that public and private universities’ tendency to produce teaching graduates without basing on the projections of the Ministry of Education (number of teachers needed) could contribute to the issue of unemployment among graduates in the field.
Earlier, it was reported that of the 4,390 ISMP graduates who completed their studies between 2011 and 2020, some have still not been called for an interview for placement in schools while a few were forced to choose other profession.
Last Sunday, Higher Education Minister (MoHE) Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry would work closely with the Ministry of Education to get their forecast of how many teachers are needed in dealing with the oversupply of teaching graduates..
Meanwhile, on the launch of the DBP school workbooks, Fadhlina said 37 authors comprising teachers and former teachers were involved in the production of 31 school workbook titles.
She said the books published by DBP on various subjects and based on the curriculum and syllabus prepared by the MoE were for primary and secondary school level. — Bernama
