JOHOR BARU, May 30 — Police have arrested two more suspects today to facilitate investigations into a gang fight in Tampoi here over the weekend.

Johor Baru North police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said the two male suspects were picked up during a follow-up operation at 1.15pm in the city here.

He said the two were believed to be linked to a brawl Tampoi here three days ago.

“Police will apply for a remand order against the suspects tomorrow to assist in the ongoing investigations,” he said in a statement tonight.

He was responding to the latest arrest of suspects who were believed to be linked to a brawl involving youths and several secondary school students in Tampoi on Friday night.

Several videos of the incident were circulated on social media over the weekend.

Malay Mail learnt that the latest incident was believed to be related to a mass brawl involving secondary school students in Kempas here last week.

It was understood that the fight was due to an argument at SMK Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat in Kempas, after a Form Three student was hit by an eraser that was thrown by a classmate.

The latest arrest brings to a total of 14 suspects, consisting of 13 men and a woman, who are now under police custody. All are locals aged between 15 and 36.

Balveer also called on the public to remain calm and not be overly emotional on the incident.

“Rest assured that police will not compromise on the investigation that will be conducted it in a transparent manner under prevailing laws.

“Please refrain from any speculation on the incident as not to create confusion within the community,” he said.

Yesterday, it was reported that police arrested five men and a woman believed to be linked to the incident.

The suspects, aged between 24 and 35, were remanded for four days in connection with the brawl.
