The motion for Mujahid’s nomination was brought by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
It was seconded by Teja assemblyman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, who is also the State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman.
Mujahid, who is also the Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, is the sole candidate proposed by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
Mujahid, 59, received his Bachelor's Degree in Arabic Language and Literature from Al-Azhar University between 1985 and 1999; then graduated with his Master's Human Resources Development from Universiti Putra Malaysia (1997-1999) and received the Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Islamic Science Politic from Universiti Malaya (2001-2007).

Perak Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said that he had only received Mujahid's name as the candidate for the senator post.
