GEORGE TOWN, May 23 — Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties need to focus on strengthening their parties to expand their support base, said BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamid.
He said no party should feel slighted when collaborating with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in a smart partnership.
“It is more important to strengthen our respective parties to expand our support base than to give in to feelings of being slighted by any political party,” he said in a press conference after launching the Semicon South East Asia 2023 at Spice Convention Centre here.
The deputy prime minister was responding to MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon who had urged Zahid to focus on taking care of BN component parties instead of PH parties.
Zahid said it is a new political reality under, the unity government, for BN component parties to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan parties.
“In this new political reality, we need to respect the different parties under this collaboration,” he said.
He added that there are 19 parties under the collaboration.
He said MCA and MIC are not the only parties under BN as the coalition also has other associate parties.
He reminded BN and it’s components that they still need to strengthen BN.
“We need to strengthen our own parties to support our members, and also for our supporters who aren’t members and to give a good impression to the party,” he said.
