KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the treatment towards state governments is a two-way street in a subtle swipe against Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Appearing as the final speaker at the inaugural Unity Government National Convention, Anwar picked Kelantan state government as an example of a good cooperation between state and federal government.
“This is the problem. He is different. The Menteri Besar of Kelantan is at least ready to negotiate well. People negotiate well, we are twice as good.
“Prideful and arrogant people stay with your arrogance and pride,” he said in his speech addressing more than 5,000 delegates at the Dewan Merdeka at World Trade Centre (WTCKL) here.
He also pledged that the water disruption problems in Sabah and Kelantan will be addressed by the federal government and wants the matter to be resolved as soon as possible.
Anwar said that he will sit with Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Kelantan chief minister Datuk Ahmad Yaakob to hash out on the matter and has no problem spending large sums of money to solve the problems that have been haunting the residents of those states for decades.
“What is important is that the people after 60 years of independence cannot be burdened and insulted until there is no clean water to drink,” he added.
Today’s unity convention saw leaders from 19 parties attend. DAP’s Anthony Loke, Gobind Singh Deo and Kelvin Yii; Muda’s Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman; MCA’s Wee Ka Siong; Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh, as well as deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof were in attendance.
