KUCHING, May 13 — Sarawak Speaker Tan Sri Asfia Awang Nasar today said Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah will table a ministerial motion in next week’s assembly sitting to enable 10,000 copies of the Sarawak Constitution to be printed.
He said approval from the State Assembly is required under Standing Order 23 of the State Assembly, to be read together with Article 42 of the State Constitution.
“The authorisation of the State Assembly is required because the State Constitution is the highest law in Sarawak,” he told reporters after attending the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) supreme council meeting here.
He said the state government will not allow any private enterprise or individual to print copies of the constitution.
He added copies of the constitution to be printed will include the latest amendments.
Asfia said Uggah, who is also the state’s second finance and new economy minister, will table two complementary supply Bills on May 16.
He said Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Hamzah will table a Bill to amend the Sarawak Craft Ordinance on May 16.
Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud will open the Sarawak Assembly sitting on May 15.
It will sit from May 15 to 24.
