KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has refuted rumours that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has gathered statutory declarations (SDs) from 126 MPs expressing their support for the coalition, Free Malaysia Today reported today.

He also denied that the coalition has been collecting these SDs with the intention of toppling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

“We have 74 and we are steadfast in carrying out our responsibilities as a credible Opposition,” he was quoted as saying, referring to the 43 and 31 seats won by PAS and Bersatu respectively.

A simple majority of 112 seats in the Parliament is needed to form a government.

He added that PN is focused on securing Terengganu, Kedah, and Kelantan, while also looking for ways to gain hold of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang in the upcoming state elections.

According to the news report, the former youth and sports minister also downplayed the now-deleted cryptic Facebook post from Bersatu leader Dr Muhammad Faiz Na’aman who reportedly wrote “It has reached 126, if true thank God.”.

He also reportedly quelled rumours that there were SDs to appoint Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as prime minister.

“I don’t think so. I believe that didn’t happen. We are in the spirit of Syawal today. We don’t need to think too much,” he reportedly said, referring to the Aidilfitri month in the Islamic calendar.

“Let’s focus on serving the people and strengthening relationships. That’s what we need to do.”
