JOHOR BARU, April 28 — The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance’s (Muda) Puteri Wangsa representative has urged residents in Felda Ulu Tebrau here to be vigilant and take additional precautions following a recent intrusion by an unknown wild animal into their land.
Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said she has been in contact with the Felda Ulu Tebrau manager to remind residents to do all they can to ensure their safety.
“The Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has also gone down to monitor the plantation area and will advise the residents later.
“At present, the Felda manager has announced that residents are not encouraged to enter the plantation area for the time being.
“If there is a need to go, please make sure to go in pairs or in groups. The residents should also avoid making eye contact with any wild animals that they come across, as such actions are considered a threat to them,” said Amira Aisya on her Facebook post today.
Earlier, Felda Ulu Tebrau residents expressed concerns for their safety after they found the wild animal’s unusual paw prints and also the carcass of a livestock, believed to have been attacked, in the scheme’s oil palm plantation.
Several photos of the discovery of the wild animal’s tracks and a livestock carcass have been circulating on social media today.
Based on the incidents, several people believe that the animal is a tiger.
The Felda Ulu Tebrau area falls under the Puteri Wangsa state constituency and is part of the Tebrau parliamentary constituency.
Amira Aisya also reminded residents not to approach any wild animal that they might come across and to maintain a safe distance.
She added this includes turning their backs to the animal or running away from it.
“Do not disturb this animal while it is eating or resting,” she said.
Amira Aisya explained that the relevant government agencies are carrying out their duties and probing the matter.
“Our responsibility now is to spread the message above and keep ourselves safe,” she said.
