ALOR SETAR, April 12 ― Kedah Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been urged to learn from his counterparts in Perlis and Kelantan, who are more prudent in maintaining a good rapport with the federal government.
Kedah Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar said if Muhammad Sanusi keeps on being at loggerheads with the federal government, it will have a harmful effect on the Kedahans who want to see smooth development in the state.
“For me, he should learn from people who are more experienced than him. In fact, I think newcomer Perlis MB (Mohd Shukri Ramli), who keeps a low profile but is somehow wiser in seeking the federal government’s attention by using a gentle approach.
“...or from the more experienced (Kelantan MB) Datuk Ahmad Yakob because, for me, it is a loss if it (disputes with the federal government) continues,” he told reporters last night.
According to Mahfuz, any tension between the Kedah government and the federal government could also cause worries among the existing or future investors in the state.
He said Muhammad Sanusi should leverage his position as the state government leader to explain to the public his vision and mission to develop Kedah and not make allegations or create political sentiments for his own benefit.
In this regard, Mahfuz urged the MB to heed the recent decree of the Sultan of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah on the importance of having a harmonious relationship with the federal government.
Meanwhile, Kedah Keadilan Leadership Council deputy chairman Nor Azrina Surip, in a statement, said that Muhammad Sanusi needs to stop telling lies about the unity government, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“The MB is an important figure in the state as he not only represents the people of Kedah as a whole but also all levels of society, including political parties that support or do not support him at the federal level,” she said.
Prior to this, Muhammad Sanusi claimed that he was prevented from attending any function or programme organised by the federal government and that there was an attempt to remove him as the state’s representative in the National Finance Council. ― Bernama
