KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 — In another new chapter of friendship between former foes-turned-allies DAP and Umno, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng and the Balik Pulau Umno division recently met in Penang to break fast during the Muslim fasting month.
In a Facebook post today, Lim said he and his wife, Betty Chew, along with several Penang DAP leaders had together with Umno’s Balik Pulau division distributed porridge to locals at the bazaar next to the Sungai Pinang police station in Penang.
After the joint distribution of porridge, he said they had then travelled in a convoy together to a local stall to break fast together.
“Thank you to Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Shah as the division chief and all of the Balik Pulau Umno family who received our visit with very special treatment,” the Bagan MP wrote in his Facebook post.
Lim added that the event was also attended by DAP’s Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, Balik Pulau Umno vice-chief Afzal Nasir and the Umno division’s Youth chief Muhammad Zaki Shah and the Umno division’s Wanita chief Aishah Hussian.
In photographs attached to Lim’s Facebook post, he was seen eating with his hands while breaking fast together at the event, while individuals were also seen trying to capture group selfies with Lim and the Balik Pulau Umno chief Shah Headan.
Separately, Shah Headan had on Saturday posted on his Facebook post on the breaking fast event with Balik Pulau Umno division members at the stall at Kampung Sungai Korok in Balik Pulau, which he said was also attended by Lim, his wife Chew and Rayer.
Shah Headan said such events could cultivate unity.
Based on Shah Headan’s Facebook post, the breaking fast event likely took place on Saturday.
The Facebook posts of both Lim and Shah featured them at the same venues and also in the same group poses.
Umno and DAP are now part of the unity government.
