GEORGE TOWN, April 6 ― The Penang government has approved a special Aidilfitri assistance of 0.75-month salary or a minimum of RM1,500 to civil servants in the state, to be paid on April 17.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the aid would also be given to those in the local authorities and state statutory bodies.

“At the state executive council’s meeting yesterday, the state government agreed to approve the special assistance, estimated to involve a financial implication of RM10.95 million.

“In addition, a special payment of RM300 will be channelled to supervisors and teachers of Al-Quran and Fardu Ain Classes (KAFA), teachers of religious primary schools (SRAR) and religious secondary schools (SMAR), staff of SRAR, SMAR and government-aided religious schools, tahfiz, pondok and Islamic kindergarten teachers, as well as teachers and staff of private Chinese schools in the state,” he said in a statement today.

Chow said in addition to preparing for a more meaningful Syawal this year, the special aid is a sign of the state government’s appreciation to all civil servants in the state for their unwavering contributions and commitment. ― Bernama
