MELAKA, March 30 ― Lendu State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali went to his office at the Melaka Chief Minister's Office, Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, here, as usual, today.
This is despite the announcement of his resignation as Melaka chief minister by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.
Sulaiman was seen arriving at the Seri Negeri Complex, after leaving the Chief Minister's official residence at Seri Bendahara, at 8.59am with a police escort.
However, it cannot be ascertained whether Sulaiman went to the office to continue his duties as chief minister or just to meet with the staff.
Speculation about the appointment of the new Melaka chief minister began circulating yesterday following messages that went viral on the WhatsApp application about the new chief minister's swearing-in ceremony that will take place this Friday (tomorrow).
Among the names mentioned to replace Sulaiman as the new Melaka chief minister is the Tanjung Bidara assemblyman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who is also the Melaka Umno Liaison chairman.
Meanwhile, attempts by media practitioners who have been waiting at the entrance of the Seri Negeri Complex to get his reaction were futile.
Sulaiman left the office in his official car at 11am. — Bernama
