KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) should investigate the incident allegedly involving its stray animal enforcers assaulting an elderly man in Taman Kanagapuram, said Lee Chean Chung.

The Petaling Jaya MP was referring to videos circulating online that appeared to show the council’s dog catchers hitting an elderly man trying to stop them from capturing his dogs and challenging a bystander to report the incident to the police.

Lee said his office has written formally to the MBPJ’s integrity office seeking an explanation over the matter.

“My office has also sought clarification from MBPJ regarding its standard operating procedures, if these exist, regarding dog-catching operations. This includes the behaviour of enforcers involved in such operations,” he said in a statement.

Lee said he would like to see a careful investigation from the council over the matter and no further repeats of such incidents.

Earlier today, reports emerged of the incident in Taman Kanagapuram that was recorded by a surveillance camera and a bystander who witnessed the incident.

Some videos appeared to show enforcers hitting the man with a catchpole when he tried to prevent them from entering his office where several dogs appeared to be trying to seek refuge.

Another video showed the man telling the bystander that he was punched in the neck and suffered a cut on his wrist.
