JOHOR BARU, March 19 — The flood situation in Johor is showing further improvement as the number of victims at temporary relief centres in two affected districts, namely Batu Pahat and Segamat, has continued to drop as of 8am today.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) informed that 17,125 evacuees are still seeking shelter at 70 relief centres compared to 19,041 last night.
“Batu Pahat has 17,123 victims from 4,906 families while in Segamat, there is only a family of two left,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Batu Pahat District Disaster Management Secretariat when contacted this morning, said the water level was seen to be receding in several areas in the district.
“We expect that the situation will improve and more victims will be allowed to return to their homes due to the good weather,” said the spokesman.
The weather in nine districts is forecast to be sunny this morning except for Kota Tinggi where rain is expected, and no rivers are at danger level. — Bernama
