KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — Authorities confirmed today they have commenced an investigation against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, who linked the Youth and Sports Ministry to Christian proselytisation.

Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai said Badrul Hisham or better known as Che’gu Bard, had also accused the ministry of channelling funds to a non-governmental organisation allegedly for enticing non-Christian youths to visit churches.

“The Royal Malaysia Police confirms it has received a report lodged in relation to the Facebook posting (by one Che’GuBard Original) that was uploaded some three days ago.

“Investigations are being conducted under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said in a statement today.

Beh said the police will be uncompromising towards any individuals who deliberately incite public unrest through remarks on issues linked to race and religion.

“The public are advised to not speculate or comment on the issue provocatively which may jeopardise the harmony and peace between ethnicities in Malaysia,” he said.

Earlier this week, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh denied that interfaith events organised by a group linked to her ministry were effectively proselytisation of Muslim youths, after Badrul Hisham labelled these to be a “Christian evangelist” movement.

She said records showed no Muslim youths were registered for the Projek Article 11 programme organised by Impact Malaysia.

Impact Malaysia, describes itself as a social impact initiative of Impact Integrated, an agency under the Youth and Sport Ministry.
