JOHOR BARU, March 16 — Malaysia’s supply of fresh food was stable and adequate to meet demand during the Muslim holy months Ramadan and Aidilfitri even though the country was still recovering from floods, said Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The domestic trade and cost of living minister assured Malaysians that their access to essential foods would not be disrupted.

“The government is already taking several steps to ensure that there is a sufficient supply of fresh vegetables as some farms were affected by the recent floods in Johor, Melaka and Pahang.

“The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry officials have also visited the vegetable farms in Cameron Highlands on Wednesday to facilitate the lack of fresh produce due to the floods.

“The situation is manageable and the supply of fresh produce is still adequate,” said Salahudin during a Menu Rahmah event at the Tea Garden outlet in Taman Perling here today.

Salahuddin, who is also the Pulai MP, also assured the public that his ministry would work with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry in the event of possible shortages.

He added that his ministry worked to ensure the steady supply of essential food in Malaysia at all times and not only during festivals.

Yesterday, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry said it would announce price controls soon for the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan that is expected to begin on March 23 and Aidilfitri a month after.
