KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be a guest speaker on Sunday at an event called the ‘Malay Proclamation’ organised by Sekretariat Tanah Air.

Held at Impiana KLCC hotel, the former prime minister will be as one of several guest speakers there to discuss matters surrounding the plight of the Malays, Free Malaysia Today reported.

The proclamation will be presented by Universiti Malaya’s vice-chancellor Hashim Yaacob while former senator Tan Sri Ibrahim Shah Abu Shah will be the event’s moderator.

According to organisers, the event is non-political and Dr Mahathir will not be there in his capacity as a member of Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).

On January 14, it was reported that Pejuang had withdrawn from the Gabungan Tanah Air (GTA) coalition.

At the time, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said Pejuang’s stance was to remain open to negotiations with any political coalition ahead of polls in six states that are due to take place this year.

A few days prior to that, Dr Mahathir had announced that he had quit Pejuang, a party that he founded a little over two years ago, and that he would be continuing his political journey with GTA.

The announcement appeared to signal a split in political terms from his son Mukhriz.

Dr Mahathir along with 13 others who had also left Pejuang, including Mahathir loyalist Khairuddin Abu Hassan, registered with Putra in February.

He founded Pejuang in 2020 after quitting Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
