SERDANG, March 16 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced that Putrajaya Mass Rapid Transit Line (MRT2) users will enjoy free rides until the end of the month.
One of the government’s strategies is to reduce the burden of the people, he said during the launch of MRT2 Phase Two at the Serdang Depot.
“Starting from 3pm today until March 31, we will not take payment from users of this MRT line,” he said.
He then joked that this would allow Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who was also present, to show tourists around for free.
The MRT2 Phase Two will be officially open to the public from 3pm today.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke assured users of the My50 all-access monthly pass for Rapid public transport services would be able to use the pass for the MRT2 as well.
“With this MRT2 line, the MRT services have increased and this will give extra value to My50 pass users because their passes can now go even further with more interconnections through this line,” he told reporters at the press conference after the launch.
The MRT2 is the second MRT line in Malaysia, and the third fully automated and driverless rail system in the region.
It spans 57.7km in length with a total of 36 stations.
The line stretches from Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya and runs through densely populated areas such as Sri Damansara, Kepong, Batu, Jalan Ipoh, Sentul, Kampung Baru, Jalan Tun Razak, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Kuchai Lama, Seri Kembangan, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
Phase one began operations in June last year.
