KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 7 — Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today urged his partymen to present a united front even as the party goes through an internal election.

In a statement, the Johor Umno chairman stressed that although the party is part of the current federal government, it “is not in a good position” after the 15th general election (GE15).

“The period of soul-searching and reflection for Umno has passed and it is now time to mobilise our plans for re-strengthening the party to ensure that Umno remains relevant in the country's political landscape, especially as we face six upcoming state elections and also in preparation for GE16.

“Give strong support to all the candidates who are competing in the upcoming delegation and committee election for the 2023 to 2026 term.

“Umno must be seen to be strong in terms of its alliances and structure, as well as its ability to present party leaders capable of contributing to religion, race, and nation,” he said.

The Umno election will be conducted in phases, with polling for the central-level leaders of its Women, Youth and Puteri wings set for March 11.

Meanwhile, polling for the three vice presidents posts and 25 supreme council members posts will take place on March 18, concluding the election.

To note, the party’s president and deputy president posts will not be contested after a no-contest motion was passed by Umno delegates at its annual assembly in January.

Khaled will be defending his vice-presidency.
