KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 7 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang should stop his “sleep-talk” plans to oust the current government, Community Communication Department (J-Kom) director-general Mohammad Agus Yusoff said.

Mohammad Agus said the country’s anti-party hopping law would make it difficult for PAS to make the current government collapse.

“And not to mention, the unity government already has a two-thirds majority in Parliament. With this being the scenario, stop sleep-talking about toppling this government.

“Focus on supporting the government's efforts of lifting Malaysia Madani to create a united Malaysian race, a more advanced and great nation again.

“We want to quickly move forward so that we can progress as a nation,” he said in a statement.

Mohammad Agus also refuted Abdul Hadi's statement that the changing of governments is normal in politics, and stressed that in democratic systems a government change is usually done through general elections.

“After the election, all parties need to work together to help solve the problems of the people and the country.

“When the next election comes, hand over the mandate to the people to make a choice.

“It can’t be that you cannot even understand this. Is the current government so bad that it needs to be replaced?” he asked.

Mohammad Agus, who was appointed to his current position by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last month, was responding to a statement by Hadi last week where the latter announced a prediction that the current government would collapse soon.

Hadi did not specify a reason for the collapse.

Yesterday, the Marang MP asserted that the Opposition bloc has a “right” to plan ways to topple the government, whether by pushing a no-confidence vote against the prime minister, or enticing elected representatives to defect.
