GEORGE TOWN, March 4 — Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) is examining a list of 50 candidates submitted by the party’s respective state chairmen for the upcoming state elections in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah.
Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said all potential candidates must go through a careful vetting and evaluation process to ensure those selected were truly qualified and capable of winning.
He said the names of those selected would then be submitted to Perikatan Nasional (PN) to be finalised.
“Gerakan has a candidate evaluation committee which is responsible for screening and then providing progressive training to them (prospective candidates) in preparation for the state elections later,” he told Bernama here today.
On February 19, Lau, who is also PN deputy chairman, requested party chairmen in the six states involved to submit the names of potential candidates by February 28.
On the seat distribution within PN, Dominic, who is also Penang PN Liaison Body chairman, said it was still under discussion. — Bernama
