KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 — The Selangor Religious Department (Jais) has cancelled popular preacher Azhar Idrus’ event in the state.

According to Azhar’s team, the event cancelled was a Maghrib kuliyah (sermon) at the Tengku Ampuan Mosque in Bukit Jelutong.

“Apologies to the people of Selangor for not being able to deliver kuliyah in your state.

“Therefore, the Maghrib kuliyah on February 26, 2023 has been moved to the Ar-Rahimah Mosque in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur. Please spread the word as widely as possible,” said a post on his official Facebook page.

Jais is expected to release a statement this afternoon.

Last month, Jais — who is responsible for enforcing the edict set by the Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) sent a circular banning any political event in the state’s mosques and suraus.

Mais is the highest religious body in Selangor whose core function is to advise the state’s head of Islam — the Sultan of Selangor.
